A test app for exam candidates
I joined InnoTest in mid-2021 to continue the creation and improving of the product by thoroughly analyzing user feedback.
One of the most relevant insights we discovered was that comparing current grades was not fair, since many users referred to their notes during tests. To address this, we designed new evaluation tests, with restrictions such as not being able to pause the timer or consult their notes, and limited attempts to three per topic, calculating the final grade as the average. This encouraged real preparation and allowed us to implement a more reliable ranking, since grades expired periodically to reflect each user's current level.
Previously, we noticed users wanted to further personalize their study, so we incorporated the option to add personal notes to each question and included extra information cards written by our experts. Along with small changes in usage and workflows, these improvements led to more and more users valuing the transparency and sense of real progress. Thanks to this approach, InnoTest has become a fairer, more dynamic tool, truly adapted to the real needs of those preparing for competitive exams.
Study what you need from anywhere.
InnoTest’s promise is to provide rigorous and fair preparation for those facing the challenge of competitive exams. However, by delving into the real user experience, we uncovered several patterns that made it difficult to fully achieve that goal: result comparisons lacked fairness and many candidates didn’t feel the system truly reflected their efforts. These insights informed every design decision we made as we evolved the app.
We learned that preparing tests without restrictions and being able to consult notes at any time meant that passing a test didn’t always indicate genuine mastery of the material. InnoTest was helpful for studying, but needed a framework that would motivate authentic learning while also enabling honest comparison between users. Once these barriers were identified, my task was to further define tools and workflows that would turn self-assessment into a much more demanding, transparent, and personalized process.
